July 23 & 24 – Spray Painting for kids! - Jul 23, 2019

July 23 & 24 – Spray Painting for kids! At the heart of most street art and graffiti is spray paint. Come along and use child friendly water based spray paint and create a masterpiece to take away with you. Drop-in workshop so no need to book, waiting times can vary. Runs from 11:00am-1:00pm & 2:00pm-4:00pm. (Child friendly event)

August 6 – Nature Prints! - Aug 6, 2019

August 6 – Nature Prints! In 1844, the first printed book of photos was published. The book was full of Cyanotype images of plant life in Britain. Come along and find out more and make your own nature print. Drop-in workshop so no need to book, waiting times can vary. Runs from 11:00am-1:00pm & 2:00pm-4:00pm. (Child friendly event)

August 20 & 21 – Create your own WW2 Evacuees Pack - Aug 20, 2019

August 20 & 21 – Create your own WW2 Evacuees Pack 80 years ago, after WW2 began the first evacuees from England arrived in Merthyr Tydfil. By 1940 there were hundreds of evacuated children in the town. Come to this workshop and find out about their story and create your own evacuees pack. Drop-in workshop so no need to book, waiting times can vary. Runs from 11:00am-1:00pm & 2:00pm-4:00pm. (Child friendly event)

September 21 – Open Doors 2019 Event: Remnants of War - Sep 21, 2019

September 21 – Open Doors 2019 Event: Remnants of War As one war ended 100 years ago another one was just beginning 80 years ago. WWI & II affected many people from Merthyr Tydfil and this Open Doors event will bring out of storage objects related to both of those wars. Costume, letters, medals, and much more will be shown and the local story by them all will be told. Booking essential. Free event. Starts at 2:00pm.

October 23 & 24 – Ghost Tours of Cyfarthfa Castle Museum & Art Gallery This is a guided tour around Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery by torchlight. Ghost stories will be told about all the mysterious things to happen at the Castle over the decades and you will have a chance to do your own paranormal investigations. PLEASE NOTE: The tours will only take place within the Museum section of the building. Tour starts at 7:00pm – 8:30pm & 9:00pm – 10:30pm on both dates. Cost £10.00 per person (non-refundable). Booking essential. (Adult Event – over 16’s)

October 30 & 31 – Halloween Projectors and Scavenger Hunt! Come along and create your own spooky Halloween projector! When it goes dark you can shine a light through your projector and scare passers-by. Take part in our scavenger hunt through the museum too! Drop-in workshop so no need to book, waiting times can vary. Runs from 11:00am-1:00pm & 2:00pm-3:30pm. For a hunt answer sheet please go to reception on arrival (Child friendly event)

November 30 & December 1 – Victorian Christmas Wreath Making Make a classic Victorian Christmas Wreath with fresh evergreens. Booking essential. Workshop costs £15.00 per person (non-refundable). All materials provided. Starts at 1:30pm. (Adult art workshop)

December 7, 8, 14 & 15 - Santa at the Castle! Santa is coming to his favourite Castle! Come along and meet him and take part in a fun festive craft activity. Booking essential. Cost £4.50 per child (adults free and price includes craft and gift). Sessions will take place between 12:00pm and 3:30pm, please contact the museum to check availability and book on to a session. Spaces are limited.
